The Charlotte Hornets (5-8) will take on the Brooklyn Nets (5-9) today at 7:30ET.
This game is considered a NBA Cup game, which will take place league-wide every Tuesday and Friday from November 12 - December 3.
Brooklyn is in the middle of a three game losing streak, while the Hornets are coming off a loss to the undefeated Cavailers. Charlotte has expectations of making the Play-In tournament after failing to make the playoffs since the 2016 season.
Games like these are going to be key for the Hornets to snap the playoff-less streak. While winning your group in the NBA cup does not clinch a playoff spot, it does inspire confidence in this young core to overcome adversity in a high stake type of enviroment.
Brooklyn enters the contest as 2.5 point favorites. This is thanks to home court advantage (every home court is designed differently for these games), playing a tougher schedule to this point, and a lack in confidence for the Hornets to cover spreads. Game totals are higher than usual today because of one of the tie breakers in group play are point differentals.
While the season is still young, we have seen flashes of brilliance in the Hornets back court. Lamelo Ball leads the way averaging 29.7 points per game and 6.7 assists per game. Center Mark Williams has yet to debut this season while nursing an injury, but Lamelo has help in second year, Brandon Miller, who is averaging 15.3 points per game.
The Nets best scorer is easily Cam Thomas who averages 24.5 points per game with a 45% shooting percentage.
The pick: This is a tough game to predict but one thing I feel confident in is drafting Lamelo Ball and Cam Thomas in your daily fantasy lineups. Over 222.5 is fun too
